Happy Tales

We'd like to share some of the wonderful letters, cards and comments that we receive about our happily ever after's. It's easy! If you've adopted one of our cuties and would like to share a photo and short story of their antics or merely show how content and happy they are in their new home, please send us an email or write to us via snail mail and be sure to attach or include a photo. We'd love to hear from you! Likewise, we'll also honor your memories of our precious adopted friends who have passed on.

Percy - Adopted '06
Our family has, for as long as I can remember, consisted of two parents, two kids, and many, many animals. The number of pets has changed over the years, but we pretty consistently found ourselves with three to four cats at any one time. After one of our feline friends, Hannah, passed away in November, we were sadly down to two obese, orange kitties. In our state of mourning, we spent a few months in dual feline-dom, but while I was checking your web page, I saw a new cat pop up. I immediately knew from his red hue and rotund frame that Percy belonged in our menagerie. Now, Percy is completely settled in to his new habitat and, although he is still a dainty 21 lbs, he is active, social, and well fed. Here, Sir Percival is doing his best 'Buddha' imitation. He is an absolute delight to have around and we are so happy to have been able to give him a home. Thank you! =^..^=

Chubsy - Adopted '05
Chubsy has taken over the house! She is upstairs, downstairs, outside (not too often) on the couches and beds (yes, she can get up on a bed - she kind of rock-climbs her way up). The other cat and the dog are a bit miffed at her attitude - taking over their favorite spots - the nerve! Chubsy is full of love, and demands it constantly...she especially loves to slam into your feet and rub against them vigorously. Because she is moving well, and constantly, her weight is dropping a bit and I would venture to guess she has dropped 1.5 pounds. Her dandruff has cleared up, and she is really quite a pretty animal. Large, but pretty. =^..^=

Tom - Adopted '04
I remember when we came into the shelter, one of the volunteers said "If you want a cat that acts like a dog, it's Tom". Boy was she right! Tom likes to follow everyone around the house, never more than a step from your feet. He begs for people food (his favorites are pepperoni pizza and cheeseburgers). He can even make his meow sound like a bark! He is by far the friendliest, most laid back cat I have ever met. =^..^=

Valentine - Adopted '04
I was at the shelter seeking a companion cat back in late February of 2004 when I saw Valentine out of the corner of my eye, alone in the corner. She was so thin and her fur was brittle and falling out in clumps. She also had a terrible eye infection in one eye and marks from where a collar had grown way too tight for her neck. The shelter director, Carole, explained that poor Valentine had been found Feb. 14, hiding in a ditch, cold, hungry and dirty. Despite being in such bad shape, she didn't mind being picked up and sat comfortably in my arms. Valentine came home with me that week, and soon her eye infection healed and she began putting on weight. After about a month, her fur became soft and fluffy, with a beautiful luster. A year later, Valentine has grown from being a shy girl to a wonderfully effusive and affectionate cat who is always up for a game and likes to follow me around the house. In this photo she sits in her favorite spot on top of the television, where she often snoozes or looks out the window at the birds and squirrels. A big THANK YOU to Animals in Distress for bringing Valentine into my life. =^..^=

Editor, The Hour 		Clyde - Adopted '03
 What a sweetheart. Clyde loves to play chase with me! He bumps my leg, looks up at me and then starts running. This is a signal to run after him and yell CHASE!, until he stops for a hug. Clyde is partially blind because his original owners neglected to have an eye infection treated, he never the less gets around well and plays with my other cats also. He is now about 8 or 9 years old. =^..^=
